Help make the Rock Chalk Prairie Acre a reality!
The Prairie Acre is located on the south side of Watson Library that overlooks Lawrence and encompasses the natural beauty of The University of Kansas’ campus. Our design + build studio of architecture and architectural engineering students are working to make the outdoor classroom at the Prairie Acre a beautiful learning space for students and faculty in the Environmental Studies and the entire KU Community.
In the Spring semester 2018, guided by our professor, Paola Sanguinetti, third and fourth-year students began creating an outdoor classroom that could be utilized by the Center for Sustainability and the Environmental Studies program. This Fall semester, our studio will continue the project by working on the seating already in place, as well as adding paving to the site. We will also be creating an information pavilion which will tell the history of the site and share about the demonstration garden. We want the space to be a place where classes can come to learn firsthand and where individual students can peacefully study. With our beautiful campus surrounding the site, our vision is for this outdoor classroom to tie into the natural landscape as well as bring in elements of the architecture already prominent on campus.
We are eager to begin building and making our design concepts a reality. We need your help! Any contribution that you make is much appreciated, and gifts of any size are welcomed. (All donations are tax deductible). We appreciate your support and your dedication to the success of the School of Architecture and Design.
