We are all lucky to be Jayhawks, but there is something special about being Mary Klayder alumni. Mary has changed so many of us for the better through her remarkable study abroad programs. Mary’s study abroad programs are a reflection of her own academic sensibility: open-minded, adventurous, inclusive, diverse, and immersive. Mary invites students from all disciplines to participate in inimitable experiences with legacies far beyond her students’ time spent on the hill. By building intersectional academic spaces for students to explore and grow, Mary has fostered new friendships, set new career paths, and broadened horizons for countless students in her time.
Many of us would never have had the opportunity or the courage to travel abroad with Mary’s encouragement and the financial support of alumni. In that spirit, we want to celebrate Mary by supporting future study abroad students by giving to the Mary A. Klayder Scholarship fund. This fund, which Mary directs, helps to open study abroad opportunities for as many students as possible. These scholarships help offset the costs of airfare, provide students with funds to fully explore new countries, and ease the financial burden of international study.
With a network as expansive and interconnected as Mary Klayder’s alumni, we hope to build a legacy for future students as they embark on their own journeys by making sure every student interested in traveling with Mary as their guide is financially empowered to do so. Please give what you can and share with your classmates from Mary’s programs. Reconnecting with your study abroad pals is undoubtedly a celebration of Mary’s admirable legacy, and we look forward to sustaining this legacy together.
