Lack of access to clean water effects 783 million people world wide. In fact, in less developed countries, as much as 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions. More specifically, 1 out of every 5 deaths of children under 5 is due to a water-related disease. Knowing the consequences of poor water conditions, Rotaract KU is teaming up with the Woodland Charity of Kansas City to bring access to clean and safe drinking water in the Patanatic Valley Region of Guatemala. Your donation will help a Rotaract KU Member assemble a water filtration system that can last one family up to ten years. Members will assemble and distribute water filtration systems in homes, businesses, and local schools to increase access to clean and safe drinking water. Our goal is to bring 250 water filtration systems to the area to benefit as many people as possible. Aside from the health benefits of clean drinking water, there are also economic benefits. According to the World Health Organization, for every $1 invested in water and sanitation, there is an economic return of $3-$34. So your donation will not only impact the families of the area but also contribute to the overall economic well-being of the community. We hope you will join us, Think Blue Rotaract KU!
