Jayhawk Motorsports (JMS) is a collegiate design competition where students design, build, test, and race formula-style race cars. Each year JMS builds a vehicle with a traditional combustion powertrain. Unfortunately, COVID-19 caused a halt during the operation of our 2020 year, so we could not finish the 2020 combustion car. We have made the courageous decision to make 2 cars this year-- the combustion car that was forced to be left unfinished last year, and finishing the electric car from 2018. Last year, they made huge design achievements, and we are wanting to show off their designs by finishing the car they worked so hard for. The team will put all of our efforts into the perfection of both of our cars. Every contribution made to our organization last year was greatly appreciated. Since we are continuing the production of the 2020 car, we are proud to announce that everyone that donated to Launch KU last year will be added on to this year. This gives all of our sponsors the chance to go up a Sponsor Level, giving them more benefits that being a top-tier sponsor brings.
JMS has a very successful history in the Formula SAE competition. In the last decade, Jayhawk Motorsports has achieved 8 top 5 finishes including two overall 1 st place finishes in the 2012 and 2014 Lincoln competitions. These events include a hundred teams from all over the world. This year, Jayhawk Motorsports has hopes of another top finish in 2021, with our goal of having a heavy focus on data testing and performance improvements. This year’s team is particularly motivated to meet their financial goals as well, hoping to fundraise their way toward competing overseas in Germany next summer.
Every donation is critical in allowing students to develop technological advances in the FSAE sphere and gives them a hands-on opportunity to apply the skills they learn in class. Jayhawk Motorsports is a unique organization as it includes students from all engineering majors as well as students from across the university. This year we have approximately 40 undergraduate students working on our team from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, chemical engineering, accounting, finance, and marketing.
