KU Internal Medicine Residency Program

The mission of The University of Kansas Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train competent and caring physicians in Internal Medicine in order to support the health care needs of adults in the State of Kansas and across the Midwest region.

Our strategic goals include:

  • Continued excellence in resident recruitment by prioritizing selection of individuals with outstanding communication and leadership skills, strong aptitude, a driven work ethic, and empathetic personality.
  • Provision of a rotational framework that ensures a high level of competency in all areas of Internal Medicine but still allows for an individualized education plan for our residents.
  • Delivery of an educational environment that expects excellence for our educators as well as our learners, as we know our learners will rise to the environment that surrounds them.

One of the challenges that we face on a daily basis is our ability to carve out didactic education time for our residents during their very busy clinical workdays.  In order to maximize our residents’ time efficiency, we conduct their educational conferences over the noon hour.  We would like to consistently provide our residents with healthy catered food during these educational conferences given that they are scheduled over lunch.  This provision of food for our residents is critically important at this time given the challenges of efficiently purchasing food in our busy hospital cafeteria.  Additionally, we would like to ensure that our residents have great options for grab and go food for those moments when nourishment is necessary but no time is available.
