Over 27 years, Mary Klayder has taken more than 1,000 students to Great Britain and Costa Rica through 42 study abroad trips. These short-term programs are offered between semesters, allowing even more students to engage in study abroad during their short time at KU.

British Summer Institute: The BSI allows students to earn seven hours of English, Art History, and Honors credit over a month-long tour of Great Britain. Students travel to York, Edinburgh, the Scottish Highlands, and London, exploring English literature and art.

London Review: London Review students explore historical London in this three credit hour course.  The semester-long course prepares students for an embedded Spring Break trip to London. After returning from their week of studying landmarks like the Globe Theater, the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, and more, students collaborate to publish a book of reviews and travel writing titled The London Review.

Travel Writing & Costa Rica: Over ten days in Costa Rica during Winter Break, students earn three credit hours while studying and practicing travel writing. Students are exposed to Costa Rican culture, politics, and ecology during their time visiting San Jose, the Monteverde cloud forests, Arenal Volcano National Park, and Manuel Antonio National Park.
