Vision: The vision of KU Sensory Enhanced Aquatics (KU SEA) is that ALL individuals with autism have access to quality, affordable swim lessons that meet their learning needs.
Mission: It is our mission to teach water safety and swimming skills to people with autism to support lifelong recreational physical activity.
Children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown than other children. Swimming and water safety instruction can decrease the risk of drowning, but most lessons don’t meet the unique learning needs of individuals on the autism spectrum. KU Sensory Enhanced Aquatics has taught over 300 children with autism to swim and recently expanded to serve adults. Research has shown 100% of parents felt their children were safer around water after eight Sensory Enhanced Aquatics lessons and more than 90% had increased their family water activities. 100% of swim instructors attending Sensory Enhanced Aquatics instructor training program felt more competent teaching children on the autism spectrum to swim. Sensory Enhanced Aquatics lessons are taught by multi-disciplinary health professionals and students, including occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, respiratory care, nursing, etc. Your donation supports health professions students and swimmers with autism.
Please donate to help us continue providing affordable, quality swimming and water safety lessons to individuals on the autism spectrum.
