Senator Elizabeth Dole has gifted her career papers to the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics. These records span the Senator’s remarkable career, including her time as the first woman to serve as a cabinet secretary in the administrations of two Presidents. Their induction into the archives represents a new chapter in the life of the Institute.
To commemorate this historic event and to honor Senator Dole’s sterling legacy, the Dole Institute is launching a new signature series – the Elizabeth Dole Women in Leadership Lecture. This groundbreaking new lecture will be a fixture of the Institute’s fall programming and will feature women who break barriers, make significant contributions to their field and reach positions of leadership. The speakers will be leaders who exemplify perseverance, motivation, innovative thinking and the ability to overcome challenges.
By providing opportunities for students and community members to engage with our featured speakers, the Elizabeth Dole Lecture will serve as a catalyst to an ongoing dialogue about women in leadership roles. Moreover, the series will promote the advancement of women to positions of leadership and will empower future generations of women who aspire to leadership and civil service.
Our goal is to endow this important program to ensure it as a pillar of Institute programming in perpetuity. Thanks in part to the generous support of Don and Kay Brada and Martha Hodgesmith with the John E. McElroy Trust, we have raised over 80 percent of our goal. We are only $25,000 short of endowing this important new series, and we ask you to join the principle donors and other donors who have already pledged their support by investing on the ground floor. Your gift will grant us a robust endowment of $150,000, guaranteeing that women’s leadership will have a permanent place at the Dole Institute.
Throughout her distinguished career, Elizabeth Dole was first and foremost a public servant, putting community before self and leading by example. The Elizabeth Dole Women in Leadership Lecture will honor the values of civic engagement and bipartisan cooperation that marked her career and the career of her husband, while inspiring young women to pursue positions of leadership and civil service. Please invest on the ground floor of this essential new signature series by making your gift today.
