KU Mortar Board - Torch Chapter

Mortar Board – Torch Chapter is excited to announce that Kala Stroup, former KU professor and Mortar Board alumni, has offered to match donations, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000 for this project. We're very excited for this opportunity and are grateful for her generous support.

Mortar Board is an interdisciplinary national honors society which recognizes college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service. Since the founding of Mortar Board in 1918, more than a quarter of a million members have held the honor of being initiated at 230 chapters across the nation. The Torch Chapter of the University of Kansas provides its members with opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to KU and the Lawrence community, and encourages lifelong intellectual contributions to the global community.

Mortar Board is raising funds through LaunchKU in order to create a scholarship for new members who demonstrate financial need. Mortar Board believes that finances should not serve as a barrier preventing students from joining a student organization. Therefore, Mortar Board wants to ensure that students who are invited to become members are able to afford the national membership fee, regardless of their financial status, through a scholarship. Many organizations on campus require membership fees or annual dues, thus joining various student organizations, especially honors societies, can often become difficult for students. By contributing to this scholarship, you will be helping some of the most elite students on campus expand their professional and academic development skills, as well as support their leadership and service endeavours. Funds raised will go directly towards 12 members who demonstrate financial need, and we hope to award the first round of scholarships to the newest members of the 2019-2020 cohort.
