College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Support the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

Your support strengthens the Jayhawk legacy!

This year challenged the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Kansas in many ways, but we are back stronger, more resolute and poised for growth. Our experiences have reinforced the importance of the use-inspired research being conducted in the College. The Heart of KU is dedicated to making discoveries and creating change that benefits our state, our nation and the world.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is a part of every student’s journey at KU. The experiential learning featured in every course offered by the College provides students with cutting-edge skills that are useful to their own careers and to the world at large. KU’s ability to provide these experiences is made possible by the state-of-the-art research conducted by our faculty. Here are just a few examples of how we are changing the world:

  • Paul Stock is an environmental and rural sociologist at KU who seeks solutions to some of the great challenges facing the world in the areas of food insecurity and environmental degradation. He researches how collaborative activity in making choices that — no matter how small — can have big impacts on the well-being of people all over the world.
  • Donna Ginther is a longstanding, distinguished professor in economic policy. She spent the last year researching the economic impact of COVID-19 and conducted nationally recognized work on the protective effects of mask mandates on COVID-19 rates.
  • The topic of police reform has been at the forefront of many conversations across the U.S. in the last year. Brandon Davis, an assistant professor in the School of Public Affairs & Administration, has been exploring how this can be done through foundational ideas of race and policing, rather than simply changing the way police are funded.
  • Sara Baer, a professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and director of the Kansas Biological Survey, conducts research on the health of the prairies and grasslands in the face of climate change. She examines grasslands restored under different conditions throughout the U.S. Midwest and South Africa.

There has never been a more impactful time to be a Jayhawk College alumnus. Help us champion the opportunities these types of research endeavors provide our students to better themselves and the world around them.

Your gift today will have an immediate effect on our work. Thank you for being a part of the Heart of KU.

Student Spotlight:

Spending the last four years as a student in the KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences truly has given me the most special college experience I could have ever imagined. The dedication the students, professors and community put into everything they do is unmatched. With the support of my KU community, I was able to find my passions and accomplish personal and academic successes I had never dreamed of. I am so grateful to be a KU alumna. Rock Chalk forever!” – Jade G., Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies 2021
