School of Journalism & Mass Communications

Support the School of Journalism & Mass Communications.

Your support strengthens the Jayhawk legacy!

One of William Allen White’s most famous quotes offers inspiration during uncertain times: “I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.” Although the last year has been filled with uncertainty, we can find encouragement in White’s attitude and outlook. The faculty, staff and students at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications continue to teach, learn, create and love what we do.

Despite the challenges of the past year, the school continued to provide excellent learning opportunities for students, and has much to be proud of:

  •  Photojournalism students published a book depicting people and scenes from fall 2020 on campus. It will serve as a bit of history showing what life at KU was like during the pandemic.
  • Students also documented the pandemic with two dozen oral histories of faculty, staff and students.
  • Strategic campaigns students worked with agencies to help companies and nonprofits navigate and even grow during a challenging time for themselves and their clients.
  • Multimedia journalism students impressively covered the 2020 local, state and national elections. The school partnered with KU to ensure students were safe as they worked to get reactions, report results and create clips for their resumes.

We continue to see students not only putting into practice what they have learned, but displaying resiliency and creativity in their commitment to their education, goals, industry and future career.

Many of those students would not have been able to weather the storm without your investment in their future. Your generosity has been a lifeline for them, allowing them to see beyond the struggles of this pandemic. Please consider making a gift today to ensure our students have the same opportunities for success as previous generations.

Thank you for your support.

Student Spotlight:

At the J-School, I learned about the art of storytelling and the countless ways I could share the same message. Through the support of the J-School staff, faculty and my peers, I was able to cultivate a unique learning experience that led me to market research. I will always cherish my time as a Jayhawk student but can’t wait for a lifetime as a journalism Jayhawk alumna.” – Jessica K., Strategic Communications and Psychology 2021
