The MS Achievement Center (MSAC) at The University of Kansas Medical Center provides connection, independence and confidence to individuals with progressed Multiple Sclerosis (MS), along with support and resources for them and their care partners.
When Richard received the diagnosis of MS, it took him and his wife, Marsha, on a journey they never imagined. MS slowly shrunk their world as it took away Richard’s ability to work and drive, impacting his cognitive and physical capabilities and changing their family life.
With the help of the social worker and occupational and physical therapists at MSAC, Richard is regaining some of that lost independence, and is building his confidence. And Marsha finds joy in knowing he is part of a caring community at MSAC.
“When Richard is at MSAC, I know that he is surrounded by people who know what they’re doing,” Marsha says. “He has something to look forward to every week, people he enjoys talking to. It’s a community!”
Richard loves the connection and conversation. “The MS Achievement Center is a great place to be. It’s like a family!”

The MS Achievement Center at The University of Kansas Medical Center provides physical and occupational therapy, brain balance and emotional support in a group setting for more than 70 individuals each week. Through weekly practice and guidance, members of the MS Achievement Center work on the physical, emotional and social aspects of their wellness. Funding for this program comes from a small monthly fee paid by its members, special event fundraisers and the support of individuals, like you, who care.
