Breaking Barriers: A JayDoc Free Clinic Initiative

As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, The JayDoc Free Clinic is on track to serve more patients this year compared to years prior. We look forward to what the future holds for JayDoc as we are determined to continue providing free health care to the uninsured, and under-insured, populations of the Kansas City Metro.

The JayDoc Free Clinic's mission revolves around a clinic open to everyone, serving the indigent, uninsured, Hispanic, adolescent youth, and people without access to basic health care while providing free health care in Kansas City on a walk-in and appointment basis. The clinic is 100% volunteer-managed, consisting of medical students, pharmacy students, physicians, interpreters, nutritionists, and undergraduates to name a few. Since our establishment in 2003, we have seen over a thousand patients annually and last year 83% of our patient population did not have any form of health insurance. Over time, our clinic has expanded to offer long-term management for patients with chronic diseases and conditions. Our Diabetes, Women’s Health, Cardiology, and Gender-Affirming specialty clinics have become mainstays to ensure patients are seen by a physician, monitored with lab work, and counseled on healthy lifestyle behaviors over time.

JayDoc is financially sustained solely by grants, donors, and fundraising events. These revenue sources keep JayDoc operational, allowing us to provide care to those in the community while offering vital teaching opportunities for current students.
