JMS Baja is a strictly volunteer student organization with the intent of building a dune buggy (Baja) for the national competition this April 11th in Tennessee. Our goal is simple, manufacture and race this vehicle into the ground to learn everything and anything from mechanical design to sales presentations. With this comes intensive time in the machine shop or design lab evaluating every decision put into the Baja.
Why do we do this?
Because we love it. Every member of our team has the passion and drive to build this dune buggy. We like to get our hands dirty. We love to race, jump, and outright break the Baja to push it to its extremes. Our student organization takes away from the monotony of a classroom and forces us to sit down and really put our knowledge to work. And all the camaraderie and teamwork along the way makes us more effective students.
This year we are taking large leaps to push our manufacturing abilities. We have started manufacturing a custom gearbox with adjustable ratios. We are running air shocks instead of previously used coil overs for a progressive spring rate. Our car is intended to be 100 pounds lighter this year making us the lightest and fastest Baja KU will have ever built.
But this is only possible if we have the support and funding from people like you. Every donation goes specifically towards funding the vehicle and pushing our capabilities further. Be it more nuts and bolts to improved brake calipers. With a Baja, comes nitty gritty material manufacturing that takes time and commitment. We are willing, excited to put that work in for you. The only thing we are short on is materials and stock components. Funding will be put strictly to that area, allowing our team to push the current bounds of our abilities.
If you have any questions, comments, or advice, feel free to email us at . We love what we do and are more than happy to talk about it further!
We won’t fall apart thanks to your help securing our components nice and tightly with the highest grade strength of bolts.
Donations here will give us the stock material needed to make the tabs we weld onto our frame.
Lightweight and easy to manufacture, your gift will help make our car lighter and sleeker.
Your gift will go towards weld material needed to construct our frame and component support tabs.
The highest level of stock material, your gift captures all the wacky machining tasks we need such as splining or CNC machining!
Safety. Safety. Safety. Gifts at this level will help secure (save) our driver with the necessary safety equipment like fire extinguishers or racing goggles.
Gifts at this level help purchase high level performance components like shocks, hubs, or tires. These are what really separate high and low level teams.
Inevitably at some point the Baja will break. To be fair, what can you expect when you floor it through a 6 foot jump? Donations at this level will help re-make or re-purchase broke components.
