Thank you so much for giving to our last campaign. KU Solar Car is crowdfunding again this year! Our goal for this campaign is to race Astra, KU’s first solar car, at the Formula Sun Grand Prix, which will take place in Topeka, KS, at the Heartland Motorsports Park from July 27th to August 2nd. The manufacturing of Astra is almost complete but we need some extra help getting to the start line. Your donation will go towards competition fees, race logistics expenses, and other expenses for Astra such as vinyl wrapping, composite materials and spare parts. About Us: The KU Solar Car Team is a student-led organization at the University of Kansas with over 35+ students from over 15+ majors. Our mission is to build solar-powered vehicles that compete in races across the nation, advocate for sustainable technology, and promote interdisciplinary learning and cooperation for students throughout the university.
The name of our first vehicle is derived from the Kansas state motto, “Ad Astra, per Aspera”, which translates as “To the Stars, Through Hardship”. We feel this embodies the spirit of our team and the journey we have gone through. KU Solar Car began in the Fall of 2017 and has endured many challenges and struggles to build the University of Kansas’ first solar car. We have been putting our blood, sweat and tears into making this happen and we are incredibly excited to race for the first time and represent our university!
The Race: The Formula Sun Grand Prix is an endurance race where the goal is to complete as many laps as possible on the race track over three days using only energy gathered from the sun. The race will take place at the Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, KS and feature competition from universities worldwide. Astra will be competing in the Single Occupant Vehicle class.
