Operation Fill the Pantry was a huge success in the month of December. Through drives in departments and schools, individual donations, and our Amazon Wish List we have been able to bring in over 1,300 individual food items to stock our shelves. Thank You!!
A few weeks ago we upped our Launch KU goal because we know that the funds will be necessary to not just start our food pantry but ensure that it THRIVES to help our students dealing with food insecurity. With a week to go we are less than $2,500 away from our new goal of $15,000!
We are also in the process of finalizing our partnership with Harvesters Community Food Network. They will not only be a source of food items, when needed, but more importantly they will provide guidance and expertise as we work towards getting our pantry open.
More information on the pantry itself and our volunteer sign up can be found on our web page: http://www.kumc.edu/thrive
Happy New Year and many thank you from the whole THRIVE Team!
The Student Life staff had a great day yesterday representing THRIVE at the annual 'Tis the Season event for KUMC faculty and staff. They collected tons of food items and raised enough to put us over the $11,000 mark in our campaign! Baby Jay even stopped by to help them spread the word about this important resource coming to our campus.
With 22 days to go we are just under $4,000 away from our new goal of $15,000! Thank you for your support.
Happy Holidays from the THRIVE Team.
Wow! Thank you for all of the support you have shown for this important project! In just two short weeks we were able to surpass our goal of $10,000 AND collect hundreds of food items to open the THRIVE Food Pantry at KUMC.
Our KUMC community has also been reaching out with the most encouraging words:
"It seems so WRONG that people need to go hungry – anywhere – but certainly within our community."
"Last night my wife asked me if the Food Pantry would take food. I have her to thank for asking the question that came with her comment that we didn't need all the boxes of cereal we had in the cupboard, not if there were students who were hungry."
"Thank you for taking up this important initiative. If you look for food insecurity on college campuses, you are sure to find it."
We have upped our goal to $15,000 because we know that the funds will be necessary to not just start our food pantry but ensure that it THRIVES!
Thank you for your continued support!
We all get tired during the day and sometimes need a little pick me up. Your donation ensures that our students have the energy to keep going.
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Your donation helps ensure our students are starting their day on the right foot.
Everyone loves gathering around the dinner table with friends and family to catch up after a busy day. Your donation will ensure our students can do the same.
Half of the fun of eating is being able to cook and create your own food. Your donation allows our students to bring creativity, variety, and nutrition into their meals.
People always say, “eat your veggies”. Your donation will help our campus landscaping department expand the growing of fruits and vegetable son campus to stock our pantry with fresh food.
Tuition, books, rent, gas…students often find themselves needing to prioritize other things over food. Your donation will ensure that our students can fill their plate and meet their full potential to THRIVE.
