WGSS Summer Support Fund

WGSS graduate students are thoughtful students, dedicated teachers, insightful researchers, and purposeful activists. In all these capacities, they imagine a better world and do the work to create that world, to reckon with the injustices that shape where we are, and push themselves and everyone around them to be better and do better. They balance grace with gumption, patience with urgency, and empathy with righteousness in ways that inspire those around them and that give great hope for the future.

.

This year, they have done all of this amidst the dramatic disruptions of a global pandemic. They pivoted their classrooms to remote learning and reorganized research plans around travel and social distancing restrictions. They advocated for their students in need and supported each other through tremendous hardship and grief. They stood up for racial justice in our community and they held our institution accountable to its highest values. Now we have the chance to support them in return.

.

The 2021 WGSS Summer Fund will provide graduate students in the Department of Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies key resources to advance their research and writing goals that have been affected by the pandemic. While all WGSS graduate students are funded in the academic year through research fellowships and teaching assistantships, few teaching opportunities are available in the summer. This fund will help WGSS students meet scholarly and personal needs at a critical juncture in their graduate training.
