Reginald L. “Reggie” Robinson, c'80, l’87 was a beloved teacher, mentor, classmate and colleague to so many during his lifetime. Reggie passed away just over a year ago, on September 19, 2020, and is dearly missed by those who had the good fortune to know him. Please join us in honoring Reggie’s legacy by contributing to the Reginald L. "Reggie" Robinson Law Scholarship.
As one of the school’s most accomplished alumni, Reggie earned both his bachelor's degree in political science and a law degree at KU. Reggie joined the KU Law faculty as a part-time lecturer in spring 1988. He was hired as an associate professor in August of that year, remaining on the law faculty until he was selected as a White House fellow in 1993-94. He served in the Clinton Administration at the Department of Justice from 1994-1998, working in various roles under Attorney General Janet Reno. He returned to KU in 1998 to serve as chief of staff for Chancellor Robert Hemenway, and later served the university as Director of the School of Public Affairs and Administration and Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs. His devotion to students was evident; even while serving in a full-time University administration role, he continued to teach in the Undergraduate Honors Program and as a law lecturer in Local Government Law. He left KU for his “dream job” as the CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation in late 2019.
During his four decades of teaching, mentorship and leadership in the KU community, Reggie was noted for his kindness, generosity and devotion to public service. As Chancellor Douglas A. Girod wrote in his message to KU faculty and staff after his death, “To put it plainly, Reggie was the nicest and most compassionate person one could ever hope to meet.”
A proud husband and father of two daughters, Reggie was passionate about advancing women in the practice of law. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to advocating for and mentoring women. The Reginald L. “Reggie” Robinson Law Scholarship was established based on Reggie's wishes to benefit academically talented female students who express a strong interest in public service. To date, more than 225 family, friends, colleagues and KU alumni have contributed over $160,000 to this fund. Please join these donors and help us increase the size of Reggie’s fund to $500,000 so it can provide a full-tuition scholarship for a deserving student.
