The University of Kansas ethics bowl team is a student organization that participates in the esteemed Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB), organized by The Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE). Immersed in rigorous preparation, teams are provided with a thought-provoking collection of cases, encompassing a wide range of practical and professional ethical topics.
Our team diligently analyzes each case, meticulously crafting their approach in anticipation of the regional tournament. Students experience substantial growth in critical and moral reasoning skills through their involvement in ethics bowl. They confront real-world ethical dilemmas, engaging in collaborative discourse to advance intellectual progress on society's most pressing ethical issues. Expectations for members encompass the refinement of intellectual acumen, guided instruction on constructing sound arguments, delivering compelling speeches, and recognizing the power of persuasive rhetoric. Furthermore, participants deepen their passion for exploring and dissecting intricate ethical situations by employing philosophical concepts and theories, while cultivating the virtues of epistemic humility, nuance, and complexity.
The funds our ethics bowl team raise will be thoughtfully allocated to support various aspects of our program. We will invest in experiences and resources like:
