I want to thank each and every one of you for your generous support of the Mary Klayder Study Abroad Fund.  We have just seven days left to reach our goal...and with your help we can do it!  Mary just returned from her 43rd study abroad trip with students and had this to say on Facebook:

Hi all, I am just returning from Costa Rica with 21 students. Some had never left the country before. Most needed support to participate even in this short program. But I have had the most amazing conversations with individual students about the particular epiphanies they experienced. They grow immensely as a group. They grow transformatively in individual ways. Many students at KU don't think they can go abroad. But as we say here in CR, YOU TOUCAN GO! There are only 7 days left in the launch to pledge a tiny sum to expand the hearts and minds and experiences of KU students. I have seen the effect over 43 programs. It is a global society. Help our students join fully! Many thanks. Pura Vida!

"In addition to being a stellar educator, for decades Mary Klayder has selflessly undertaken sustained labor in being incomparably open, helpful and extremely innovative in uncovering opportunities for her classroom students, study abroad participants, and the students she advises.  We should know - both of us were lucky enough to have Mary as an advisor, and the paths of our lives were forever changed because of it.  She was always our favorite educator.  We suspect we are not alone in that regard, judging by the University's and Lawrence media's regular adulation of Mary as one of KU's most beloved professors.  We are so very pleased that the Honors Program has established this Fund to honor Mary, who remains as modest as ever.  We hope that all of the lucky souls she helped in the past give something to Mary's Fund, be it small or large, enabling the University and Mary to continue her life's mission.  It's the least we can all do to recognize Mary.  Congratulations Mary.  Rock Chalk!"
