The Center for Community Outreach is an assemblage of thirteen programs and a six-person executive staff that strives to connect students to volunteering throughout Douglas County. Each CCO program focuses on a different area of need in the Douglas County Community. EARTH is one of the thirteen programs that focuses on promoting and engaging outdoor, environmental sustainability practices on campus and in the community.
EARTH provides opportunities for students to learn about the relationships between food, the environment and local food producers. On West Campus, EARTH has a 1,600-square-foot, student run garden. The garden is in need of a new functional shed to keep tools and supplies organized and protected for student gardeners. Once the new shed is built, the supply chest that currently houses tools will be repurposed into a composting bin.
EARTH provides opportunities for students to learn about the relationships between food, the environment, and local food producers.
EARTH also runs the Campus Garden on West Campus, which is open for any KU student to utilize.
Earth sends out volunteers to various campus and community gardens that need maintenance such as the Little Prairie Donation Garden, the Just Food garden, and the Prairie Park Nature Center.
Produce from the Campus Garden is taken to the Campus Cupboard, a free food resource for all KU students.
This project will help us build a new functional shed to keep tools and supplies organized and protected for student gardeners.
