Help KU be the First University to Put a Liquid-Fuel Rocket into Space!

Jayhawk Rocket Propulsion Design is the newest entrant in the university space race! University teams are competing to be the first to send a liquid-fuel rocket to the Kármán line, the official boundary of space. In its first semester, the team has quickly grown to more than fifty members, all with a passion for rocket science and making this goal a reality.

This campaign will fund the design, development and testing of the team’s first engine, Baby Jay.

This is an important milestone on the path toward a rocket launch, where the team will be able to validate an engine design that will one day be capable of propelling a rocket to space. The lessons we will learn from this experience will prepare us to make more powerful engines, and eventually a sub-orbital that will travel to the Kármán line.

Liquid-fuel engines are complex machines that involve aspects of aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and chemical engineering. The success of this project will depend on interdisciplinary collaboration within the School of Engineering, but also across the entire university. We have a team that is dedicated to tackling aspects of the project that don’t require engineering expertise in an effort to include students from any discipline in this exciting project.

Any companies that wish to donate a product or service, please reach out to one of the project owners or our group email, KU.JRPD@gmail.com

Choose a giving level

$10

Materials Engineer

These donations will go toward helping us buy the tools and materials we need to build our engine.

$25

Controls Engineer

Gifts of this amount will help us purchase valves and electronics that the team needs to safely turn our engine on.

$50

Manufacturing Engineer

Donations at this level help cover the cost of manufacturing small components for our engine.

$100

Safety Engineer

A gift at this level will cover the cost of PPE for one student, allowing us to safely develop our engine. At this level, donors will get their name/company name on the donor page of our website.

$500

Hardware Engineer

Donations at this level will fund the manufacturing of large components including the combustion chamber, nozzle and injectors. At this level, donors will get their name/company name on the donor page of our website.

$1,000

Test Engineer

This will provide our group with hours of test time at a dedicated rocket engine testing facility, allowing us to validate the design of our first engine. At this level, donors will get their name/company name on the donor page of our website.
