The mission of Legacy of Love is to financially assist students who have lost a loved one by providing an academic scholarship at the University of Kansas. Legacy of Love was created to support students grieving the loss of a loved one, both emotionally and financially. Our goal is to show those affected that we are always here to help them.
All money raised will go toward the scholarship for KU students facing these hardships. This endowed fund will live in perpetuity and support future generations of exceptional students. For more information on endowed funds at the University of Kansas Endowment Association, click here.
Lexie Foxworthy shares the heartfelt story that inspired her to create this fund.
"On December 11, 2020, I lost a dear friend of mine. Emily was someone I could always count on. A constant. I still remember when I received the news that Emily had passed; From what I was eating, where I was and how I reacted after hearing the news. I was in disbelief.
Emily was someone I could always turn to for help and someone I still turn to today. When I am questioning myself or something I want to do, I think of what Emily would say to me or how she would handle the situation herself. She was truly someone I trusted and looked up to.
After losing Emily, I have tried to live by the saying, “live life to the fullest,” and remember you never know when it is your last day on Earth.
Not long after I lost Emily, two of my friends lost their moms to cancer. I couldn’t take sitting back and not doing anything. I wanted to help people overcome hardships and pay tribute to those who have touched my life and countless others.
On the anniversary of one of my friends' moms’ passing, I decided to start a scholarship at KU. I wanted to show Emily that she was loved and touched so many hearts. I also wanted to show her that although she didn’t get to finish her dreams, she would be helping others finish theirs.
As more time has passed since I started the scholarship, I realized how encompassing it became. It became about Mrs. Cords, Mrs. Serati, Remington Young and the many, many other people who's legacy deserves to be remembered.
There are a myriad of words to say, but I will leave you this. A piece of me will always be with you Emily and I will forever cherish the memories we made and shared together. I hope you are proud of all I am doing down here and know I think of you every day. You will forever and always remain a constant in my life."
