We did it!

January 29, 2018

We did it!

More than 50 donors joined you to Help Mobilize #KULegalAid, and we made it to our $5,000 goal with two days to go!

Thank you so much for your donation and for sharing our campaign with your friends and family. We couldn’t have done it without you. We are now positioned to pivot quickly to offer legal help when our community needs it most.

The campaign will remain open even as we surge past our goal, so please continue to use social media to share updates and personal stories about your relationship with the Legal Aid Clinic: http://bit.ly/2l0glsN

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are celebrating your support and involvement, too.

Thank you!

Let's finish strong

January 22, 2018

Wow! With just 9 days remaining before our Jan. 31 deadline, your generous contributions have put us more than 65 percent toward our $5,000 goal!

Thank you! We can’t tell you how grateful we are for your investment in #KULegalAid.

What might be most exciting is the number of donors engaged in this campaign. We’ve received $3,308 from 34 unique givers. We are encouraged that so many of you believe in the mission and good work of the Legal Aid Clinic.

Your support couldn’t be coming at a better time. The Clinic has scheduled its second “Clean Slate” Expungement Clinic for Saturday, Feb. 10 in Lawrence. Student volunteers will staff a walk-in station at a local soup kitchen where anyone with a prior conviction can obtain legal advice and representation to address criminal records that pose barriers to housing and employment stability. At one half-day session in 2017, the Clinic assisted almost 50 people.

Rock Chalk!

Over the 20 percent mark

December 22, 2017

As we wrap up our second week of fundraising for #KULegalAid, we want to pause to say THANK YOU!

Since our first update, three more donors have invested in our efforts to Help Mobilize KU's Legal Aid Clinic — bringing our total to $1,100. That's 22 percent of our $5,000 goal!

We've noticed you spreading the word on your social networks, and we appreciate all your support. Keep it coming!

Did you see 3L Rayven Garcia's blog post earlier this week about how she has blossomed in the Clinic? "The Legal Aid Clinic has given me the opportunity to put on my lawyer suit, shed all my doubts about becoming an advocate and know that coming to law school was the right path for me," wrote Garcia, pictured below. If you're a #KULegalAid alumnus yourself, her experience may ring true for you, too.

Would you like to be an official Ambassador for the project and track your impact with a unique giving link? Just let us know by emailing mpaget@ku.edu! Otherwise, you can continue spreading the love by sharing our main campaign link: http://bit.ly/2l0glsN

Happiest holidays!

Off to an impressive start

December 15, 2017

THANK YOU!

We are so grateful for early investors in our campaign to Help Mobilize KU's Legal Aid Clinic!

If you're following along, you're already aware that we've raised $725 from 10 donors in just five days. That's 14 percent of our $5,000 goal!

We know many of you participated in the Legal Aid Clinic during your time in Green Hall, and your support will empower today's students to continue meeting the community’s urgent legal needs.

Feeling inspired? We encourage you to share your #KULegalAid stories on your personal social networks, along with a link to our campaign: http://bit.ly/2l0glsN

Levels
Choose a giving level

$25

Due Diligence

Your donation will help us leave no stone unturned in our efforts to serve clients in need! For example, $25 could fund a criminal history background check to help us get the full picture of a client’s expungement prospects, or it could pay mileage to a student who is going the distance to investigate a case.

$50

Notice by Publication

$50 can fund a range of clinic activities, including getting the word out through media, flyering, and other forms of public outreach when there is a legal need that needs community education and action.

$100

Res Ipsa Loquitor

$100 speaks for itself. Your generous donation at this level begins to give us the flexibility to begin to think bigger in our legal work – whether that means bringing in an expert for testimony, paying for records we subpoena, or otherwise expanding the breadth of our options as students fight for clients’ rights.

$500

Lawyer as Public Citizen

$500 honors the role we are all called to serve in our legal careers as “public citizen[s] with special responsibility for the quality of justice.” It positions our clinic – and our students – to be ready for anything, anywhere, anytime. It frees us to mobilize, organize, and educate while serving indigent clients in this ever-changing legal and political climate.
