Honors and Awards

February 23, 2016

During Annual Assembly, AAHPM recognizes physicians who have impacted the HPM field. During this conference, the fellows will have the opportunity to see Dr. Christian Sinclair begin his year as President of AAHPM as well as Drs. Lindy Landzaat and Jay Riseman receive their Fellows of AAHPM.

Drs. Lindy Landzaat and Jessica Kalender-Rich were named to the Inspiring 40 under 40 in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2014.

Catching up with former colleagues

February 22, 2016

Annual Assembly offers the opportunity to catch up with former colleagues as well as meet new people. Dr. Sinclair had the opportunity to run into Dr. Andi Chatburn (second from the left), Fellow Class of 2013-2014, at the 2015 conference.

What are other institutes doing?

February 19, 2016

While at AAHPM, you can tour the poster presentations and learn about the projects and research other institutions are pursuing.

Dr. Lindy Landzaat, Fellowship Program Director, discusses her research with an attendee.

Why are you looking forward to attending Annual Assembly?

February 18, 2016

I am looking forward to attending my first AAHPM conference to get exposure to leaders in the field and explore cutting-edge ideas related to our delivery of care. Attending AAHPM will allow me opportunities to significantly expand my exposure to new and different ideas in our field beyond the wonderful variety of exposures I have already been afforded at KU during my fellowship year thusfar.

My hope is to continue to grow my skills for direct patient care by exploring new concepts in integrative care models as well as learning about the fundaments of building a Palliative Care program, including working through transitions of care and working within a hospital system to fund, build and grow a program.

As I look forward to moving forward from fellowship and into my own practice I know that the exposures and knowledge I gain at AAHPM will be invaluable to exposing me to questions I will face in practice and establishing a solid foundation from which I can approach these issues, as well as building relationships I can call upon as I grapple with issues like Physician Assisted Suicide and Survivorship as everyone in the field will have to in some way.

Thanks for taking the time to consider supporting this effort!

Dr. Alex Gamble, 2015-2016 Fellow

We hit the $1000 milestone!

February 17, 2016

Not only are we excited about the conference, but also about hitting $1000. Will you help us reach our next milestone of 25 donors?

Help us send our fellows to AAHPM Annual Assembly...

because where else will they get a face tattoo that says Palliative Power?

Utilizing Different Background

February 15, 2016

"It is important for the fellows to interact and build relationships with individuals who have different backgrounds and experiences with hospice and palliative medicine. They will be great resources for their own practice in the future." - Dr. Emily Riegel, 2010-2011 KU HPM Fellow

Dr. Lindy Landzaat, Fellowship Program Director, participates in a small group discussion.

Challenges...

February 12, 2016

Sometimes during the Annual Assembly, attendees will be met with a challenge, like the #thickenedliquidchallenge, to put yourself in the shoes of your patients. Are you up for the challenge of this diet?

While at Annual Assembly, our fellows will hear from excellent speakers.

February 11, 2016

At the assembly, the fellows will have the opportunity to hear from speakers like Atul Gawande, author of Being Mortal and The Checklist Manifesto who spoke at the 2014 conference.

What is your favorite thing about attending AAHPM?

February 10, 2016

"Attending the Annual Assembly always re-energizes my passion for palliative medicine and allows me to get together with former colleagues and friends. I always come back to KU eager to share new information with our team." - Dr. Lori Olson

Dr. April Krutka, KU HPM Fellow, participates in a session at the 2012 Annual Assembly.
