Dirt Works Studio is partnering with Tenants to Homeowners to create a small affordable house for individuals facing housing insecurity. Tenants to Homeowners is a local nonprofit based in Lawrence, Kansas, that has helped more than 350 families become homeowners since 1992. TTH also provides 70 affordable rentals and annually reaches over 300 people through homebuyer education workshops and presentations to help families succeed as homeowners.
The Phoenix House project is a tiny home that symbolizes rebirth. This home will serve as a stepping stone to reintegrate Lawrence residents experiencing homelessness into a supportive community, paving the way for a brighter future. The 14 students involved in this project are dedicated to establishing a strong connection between the KU Architecture Department and the surrounding community.
Construction documents are slated for submission in October 2023, with construction scheduled to commence in January 2024 and conclude in the spring. Follow our progress on social media: @dirtworksstudio on Facebook, @dirtworksstudioku on Instagram, and @DirtWorksStudio on Twitter.
