The University of Kansas Steel Bridge Team competes annually in the Student Steel Bridge competition presented by American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). At regionals and nationals, the team competes to construct a light bridge quickly, that will deflect minimally under a 2,500 pound load. As representatives of the University of Kansas, we strive to compete competitively every year.
With the help of a larger team than ever before, we are taking a different approach to the competition this year, giving us the best competitive edge possible. With plans to complete initial fabrication of our bridge before the spring semester, we are allowing ourselves plenty of time to master our construction speed, while also giving us time to make plenty improvements as we see fit.
With the dedication our team has showed, we are planning to go farther in the competition than our team has ever gone before. This year our team is aspiring and actively working to place 1st in our regional competition and within the top 10 in the national competition.
Every donation goes towards purchasing a new welder or sponsoring us on our trip to regionals and nationals:
The Steel Bridge Team works hard year-round for competition while also sharing our love for engineering with the surrounding community. Help us bring the regional title to Lawrence!
Make a gift today to help the Steel Bridge Team compete on a national level!
While not seen from the outside, the sleeves in our bridge are essential for quick assembly . Gifts of any size are welcome to help hold our bridge together!
Although lateral bracing is one of the thinnest members of our bridge, we would fail without it. Every contribution is essential in helping us reach our goal.
Nuts are essential to keep our connections tight. With your help, we can bring our dedicated members to competition!
Bolts bring two members together; you can help unite our team with a contribution that will send us to both regionals and nationals.
Every year, we put a lot of thought into the design of our connections to achieve optimal fabrication time and stiffness. Your contribution can help us purchase a welder to allow all members to be hands-on in our fabrication process.
Steel is the most important material required to compete in the Steel Bridge Competition. With a contribution of $1000+, we will put the names of our most generous individual and corporate donors on the back of the t-shirts that we will be worn to the competition.
